Concealed Carry Permits
I'm looking into getting my concealed carry permit in the state of Colorado, and I just came across these tidbits in the application packet:
"Any peace officer in the state of Colorado may confiscate any concealed handgun permit issued by the issuing Sheriffs Office for delivery to the issuing Sheriff, when the peace officer has reasonable suspicion that the permit holder falls into a category for which the permit would not have been issued initially." So basically, if a cop doesn't like me, he can take my concealed permit away? This sucks! "Each Sheriff shall maintain a list of permit holders. Information may be shared with another criminal justice agency upon request for law enforcement purposes or for the purpose of determining the validity of the permit." No privacy either. I really don't like the idea of having to be photographed and fingerprinted for the state to trust me with a gun. I wonder how far I would get if I ignored all these rules, got caught with a gun and claimed the second amendment? Now listen to this one, this is the best yet: "If the governor at any time issues his proclamation as provided in section 24-20-201 declaring the state or any county, city, town, or district within the state to be in a state of riot, or insurrection, or invasion, it is unlawful while said proclamation is in force for any person, firm, or corporation within the territory covered by said proclamation to purchase, manufacture for sale or use, receive, transport, carry, or use any firearm or ammunition or to sell, give away, or otherwise dispose of or permit others to obtain possession of any firearm or ammunition without a written permit from the governor or his regularly authorized representative." So if we're being invaded by a foreign entity, all of a sudden my permit is deemed invalid and I can't defend myself. Holy Crap! What ever happened to "A well-regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed"? |
Re: Concealed Carry Permits
It died along with most of the other amendments......and yet they still think we need another one to regulate marriage and flag burning.
My thought is "Let's try just using the ones we've got for a while". |

Can't offer any insight into Colorado law but good for you for getting the concealed!

Re: Concealed Carry Permits
1: "Reasonable suspicion" is a legal term... there are specific things the cop must observe in order to have reasonable suspicion. He can't do it just because he doesn't like you. Well, he can, but it would get overturned in court and you would get the permit back.
2: Most CCW permits I've seen are just small pieces of paper. In Indiana it's a pink piece of paper but it's still just a piece of paper. Meaning, you can make a duplicate of your permit that is indistinguishable from the original. If your permit is rescinded it would be illegal to use your spare, but a spare is still good to have in case you lose your original, or if it gets confiscated and then when its overturned in court the officer doesn't have it any more or some such BS. |

Seems Colorado post-Columbine has gotten kinda paranoid about guns. You might consider moving to a more gun-friendly state...like NM. Here in NM only the State Police (DPS) have access to that CCW info...showing my CCW permit at DUI road blocks or pullovers has gotten me a FREE PASS on several occasions with the officer...If you have a CCW in NM the Law Officer knows that you have NO FELONY CONVICTIONS--LIFETIME, NO CLASS A OR B MISDEMEANORS WITHIN THE LAST 5 YEARS, PASSED BOTH STATE AND FEDERAL FINGERPRINT AND BACKGROUND CHECKS, NO DELINQUENT CONDUCT WITHIN THE LAST 10 YEARS, NOT DELINQUENT IN CHILD SUPPORT PAYMENTS, STUDENT LOANS, OR STATE/LOCAL TAXES... How many people that he meets on duty can he say that about? |

Exactly what I've always said about stores that post "no guns"........ You know ALL Of the above about me......WHAT THE HECK DO YOU KNOW ABOUT THE REST OF YOUR CUSTOMERS ? |

The laws written above are to make sure that you can't rebel. |
Re: Concealed Carry Permits
First and foremost, the governor of Colorado had the CCW bill, passed by both houses sitting on HIS DESK as Columbine occured. It took two years after Columbine to get the bill BACK to his desk, where he did sign it.
Having said that, for the fee, it's cheap insurance and will help if you ARE carrying a concealed weapon. Now, if you think your name is NOT on a list, then you have never purchased a firearm. If you HAVE purchased a firearm and been run through NCIS, YOU ARE ALREADY ON THE LIST. As far as the rest of those laws, that's just the governor trying to LOOK like he's in control. Trust me, as was mentioned above, NO WAY that he is. Plus these are the EXACT same laws passed back in the early thirties, but they mentioned 'people of color' instead of 'everybody'. And if you have a Colorado drivers license, YOUR PRINTS are already on file. From Denver, OUT... |
